A sailor lands in a port. Alone with his kitbag, he strolls around the surrounding area. He stops in a bar where several couples are dancing to music and orders a beer. The barman, carrying a tray of drinks, makes his way through the group of people. A child darts in front of him. Out in the street, a laughing boy runs out to join his friends. Another child, meeting up with a friend at the swings, pushes his friend so hard she flies out of the swing into the sandbox. The dust thrown up by the sand annoys a nearby couple and a man driving by is obliged to turn on his windshield wipers. A bird, nesting on the windshield, flies to a window of a room above the bar. There, a woman is typing on a typewriter. One of her friends bursts into the room and cajoles her into coming down to the bar to dance. This woman sweeps the sailor into a dance.
