Synopsis :
En Chine, une jeune enfant échappe à la douloureuse contrainte des pieds bandés que cherche à lui imposer sa mère. Dans sa fuite, elle devient adolescente noire dans un village africain qui parvient à échapper à une excision dans un village africain, puis jeune femme arabe au Moyen-Orient refusant le port de la burka. Excédée d’être ainsi la victime de traditions inhumaines, elle finit par participer au premier vote des femmes en France.
A la fin du film, on découvre que tout ce voyage d’accession à la liberté se passe dans la tête d’une petite fille qui voit sa mère maltraitée par son père. La petite fille décide de partir : le cycle continue.
In China, a child escapes the painful process of having her feet bound that her mother had planned. As she flees, she turns into a black African teenager escaping excision in an African village, then a young Arabic woman in the Middle East refusing to wear the burqa. Fed up with being the victim of inhuman traditions, she ends up participating in the first French elections allowing women’s suffrage. At the film’s end, we discover that all this struggle for women’s freedom is in the little girl’s head, as she witnesses her father physically abusing her mother. The little girl decides to leave and the cycle continues.
