Our School

Specialized since 1984 in the teaching of drawing and moving images.

Celebrating Drawing

Founded in 1984, its creation was driven by a militant act: to stand against the gradual disappearance of representational drawing in art education. While successive new media — from photography to the internet — initially seemed to hasten the decline of drawing, they now provide innovative platforms that restore its prestige. Reinstating drawing at the heart of artistic training had become essential. For over thirty years in France and in Lyon, where it is based, the Émile Cohl School has been a pioneer in this field. Choosing to study at Émile Cohl means learning to train your eye during the first three years of foundational studies, followed by two years of professional specialization — in comics, illustration, 2D/3D animation, video games (concept art, character design, etc.), 3D drawing, digital publishing, or multimedia design. The school also offers evening classes and workshops (comics, animated drawing, watercolor, sculpture, travel sketchbook, etc.) that are open to everyone, regardless of skill level. These courses are designed for anyone wishing to learn or improve their drawing practice. The school also caters to professionals in the image industries, with a continuing education program launched in 2017 tailored to their needs.
