Portfolio Requirements for Admission to Cycle 1

(Drawing Foundation year, Drawing & French Foundation year, 1st year of the Drawing Artist program or 3D Artist program)

To apply for admission to Cycle 1, international applicants must submit a single portfolio, which must include the following elements:

  • A motivation letter written in French

  • A scan of your passport

  • A scan of your high school diploma (or equivalent)

  • An artistic portfolio made up of observation drawings from real life. Please create 4 boards, each composed of 2 to 3 drawings per board:

    • Board 1: Views of buildings (interior or exterior)

    • Board 2: Full-body figure drawings from a live model

    • Board 3: Drawings of tools, fruits, or vegetables

    • Board 4: Observation drawings — subject of your choice

Each board must clearly indicate:

  • The date the drawing was made

  • The techniques used

  • The time taken to complete the drawing

Please note: Applying to the Drawing & French Foundation year is free of charge.

Admission Procedure – Entry into 4th Year (Master’s degree)

1. Between January and May – Booking an Appointment
Applicants must contact the school by phone or email to schedule an admission interview.

  • The interview will take place in person for candidates residing in mainland France or neighboring countries.

  • For other international candidates, the interview will be conducted online.

2. The Admission Interview
At least 5 days before the interview, applicants must send their complete application digitally.
Failure to do so may result in the application being rejected.

During this individual interview with a member of the academic staff, the applicant will present their artistic portfolio.
This meeting aims to assess the applicant’s motivation, goals, and, for non-native French speakers, their French language proficiency (especially if they cannot provide proof of a C1 level).

3. The Practical Test
Depending on the outcome of the interview, the applicant may be asked to complete a remote practical assignment to demonstrate a skill not sufficiently shown in the portfolio.

4. End of June – Final Decision
The admissions jury, meeting in a plenary session at the end of June, will make the final decision on admission.
Applicants who are not accepted may reapply for the 4th year within the next two years.

About French Language Requirements

To follow our programs comfortably, the recommended French levels are as follows:

  •  Drawing & French Foundation year : A1 level

  • 1st Year (Drawing Artist, 3D Artist, or Comic Art programs): Near B1 level at the beginning of the year.
Advancing to the next year requires achieving a B2 level.

  • 4th Year (Master’s degree): C1 level

Good to know

All new international students will take a free French language test (organized internally by the school) at the beginning of the academic year.
Based on their results, free language support courses may be offered to help them improve throughout the year.
